the social bondages and created a new social order to up lift families from the lower strategy. A cross section of society
from Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu, What they are today- is because of and through education from the missionary
institutions.

CSI stands for Church of South India and Mdurai – Ramnad Diocese is the ecumenical unit headed
by Rt. Rev. Dr. Christopher Asir, is instrumental in conservation of Christian education; who started
CSI college of Education in Pasumalai and Ramnad, utilizing the wealth of experience (35 years) of Dr. J.P. Gabriel (Rtd)
from Department of education, Madurai Kamaraj University and The American College.
At present, the Diocese of Madurai-Ramnad has 183 Institutions, 5 colleges, Two B.Ed colleges, One Dental College,
Arts and Science College, One College of Nursing, One Trade School, Scholl of Nursing, Two Teacher Training Institutions
with 17,500 teaching faculty and 45,000 students learning at various levels. 174 schools are scattered in six districts.
